Hi Everybody-

If you would like the opportunity and privilege to facilitate a workshop at this year's DAIS conference, sign up is now!

The extended deadline for signing up for facilitating workshops is Friday, April 1, 2011.
The facilitator assignments should be announced around Thursday, April 7, 2011.


***Remember that in order to facilitate at the conference, you must attend required facilitator training, regardless of your prior experience!

CONFERENCE WORKSHOPS

Each student can sign up for a maximum of three workshop options. You will be assigned to facilitate up to two conference workshops.

* Born This Way * 

Do we live in a heterosexist world? Is experimenting more okay  for girls or boys? Does it matter?

* Can I See Some ID?*

Is age really just a number? Does it correlate with intelligence?

* Coming to America *

Who does immigration refer to anymore…Ellis Island or ‘The Border’?  What about ‘The Dream Act’ and SB 1070?

* Daddy’s Big Man vs. Daddy’s Little Girl*

The rules and roles at home... Are there different boundaries based on you gender?

* Do you think I’m sexy? *

What is beauty? What is attractiveness? What is sexy? Who decides where you fit?

* Hi, my name is…*  

What first impression do you make…name, appearance, speech? How do they affect others’ perceptions of you or how you perceive others?

* “Look Mommy , they’re different colors!”*

 Interracial Dating. What is acceptable/tolerated? What’s the issue?

* No Strings Attached- Lovers and Friends* 

Friends with benefits? Does or can it work? Who benefits more?

* One Nation… Under God?*  

Are your beliefs chosen or dictated? Religious, spiritual, agnostic or atheist- current trends in beliefs…cool or not?

 How much of your life do you broadcast through social networking and blogging? Is it worth it?

 * Proud to Be ______!*

Does expressing pride in your racial, ethnic or cultural background become exclusion of others? What is the threat, or is there?

Classy vs. Nasty? The line between having fun and social indecency. Who decides?

* The Minority Table * 

Contemporary segregation in your school. Is it alienation or survival?

* The ‘R’ word?* 

What is the true definition vs. how this and other ability references are used and applied in society?

* What is your favorite song?* 

Who listens to what? What stereotypes do certain genres carry? The power of music, lyrics and media portrayal.

* Where did you go over break?*

How comfortable are you talking about socio economic class in your school?
